Tuesday, May 6th, 2008-E2 Is First In For Second Time In A Week At Working Fire
At 1757 hrs, Branford Dispatch came on the air dispatching a Working Fire at the corner of Rogers St. & Meadow St. E2 responded in less than a minute with a crew of 7. As E2 pulled out, a large column of heavy black smoke could be seen in the sky. E2 arrived first a minute later hooking up big to a hydrant right in front of the building. Heavy fire was showing from an end unit 2 story condo. The E2 crew quickly pulled the 2 1/2" handline and advanced through the front door knocking down heavy fire on the first floor. E1's crew pulled a second line to the rear of the building knocking down fire on the outside. While this was going on members of E1 & E2 pulled two more 1 3/4" handlines with one going into the exposure unit and another one going into the fire unit. E2 also supplied water to E1. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked. Guilford Fire arrived quickly with yet another impressive RIT team and set up thier Tower in the front and vented the building. East Haven also arrived with thier Quint and put the ladder up to the D side of the building while Branford's Truck 1 laddered the rear. All crews did another outstanding job at this fire. Company 2 had a total of 16 members on scene. You can see more photos at Beyond The Fire Line or Mary Johnson Photography.

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008-E2 Is First In For Fire At Dutch Wharf Marina
At 2226 hrs a resident on Harbor St. had called in and reported seeing heavy fire possibly coming from the Dutch Wharf Marina which is off of Maple St. So the box assignment was sent out. E2 had a crew of six at the firehouse and responded within a minute. E2 and Car 6 arrived first at the marina with nothing visible until they got to the backside of the marina where they found heavy fire showing from the D side of a 2 story woodframe boat storage building. The E2 crew pulled a 2 1/2" and 1 3/4" handlines. The crew got on the 2 1/2" and started hitting the fire off of tank water and made a great stop knocking most of the fire down before it spread to the rest of the building. At this time E1 laid a feeder to E2, establishing a watersupply. Upon Car 6 giving the 'working fire' E4 was added to the assignment and upon their arrival laid a second supply line down Harbor St. into a driveway on the D side of the building and pulling an 1 3/4" handline. Crews then set up ladders opening everything up to check for extension and for extensive overhaul. Units that operated on scene were E1, E2, E4, E7, E9, T1, R1. Guilford Fire was on scene as the RIT team while East Haven Fire covered Branford. All crews did an outstanding job at this fire. Also two antique boats were saved. E2 operated for approx. two hours. April, 2008-Brush Fires Keep CT Firefighters Busy, Including Branford
Warm temps., low humidity, and no rain this month produced high fire danger for the State of CT. There have been well over 200 brush fires in CT with most within a week between April 20th to April 26th. Anywhere from small fires to 175 acre fires have burned in CT. And Branford was not excluded, fighting mostly smaller brush fires around town. The dry conditions also sparked the fire in the story below. Click Here for video of WTNH doing the news story out of Branford with some pics of the incident stated below on Montowese St.

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008-Company 2 Member Extinguishes Outside Fire
At 1217 hrs a sturucture fire was dispatched for Paul & Company Hair Salon on Montowese St. It turned out to be a discarded cigerette that caught some shrubery on fire next to the building with some extension to the side of the building. A Company 2 member was passing by in thier pov when the call was being dispatched and was first on scene. The member then took a personal fire extinguisher and put the fire out before arrival of any units, minimizing extension and damage. Crews from E1 and Truck 1 opened up the side of the biulding and checked inside for any further extension and cleared a light smoke condition in the basement. E2 arrived on scene and was placed in service to cover town. Company 2 also ran a water condition and an AFA for the day.
